5 Ways for All Single Women to Own This Valentine’s Day

Single ladies out there used to cringe at the thought of being alone for Valentine’s Day, as it serves as a reminder that she is, in fact, alone. She may indulge in her favorite chocolates, purge any reminders she may have laying around about the ex, why she may even watch cheesy romantic comedies and route for the main characters to not fall in love.

However, this bitterness doesn’t have to consume us. In fact, we recommend doing these five things to keep your mind off of the singleness of the day but to treat it as a day of what it really is about—love. Here’s what we mean:

1. Indulge Yourself. This day is about love and there is absolutely nothing wrong with showing yourself a bit of that love. Call out from work and do whatever it is that makes you feel the most relaxed. You can pamper yourself with a good massage, get a mani-pedi, or maybe even order take out and veg in front of the television and catch up on your favorite television show.

2. Follow Through. If you aren’t so comfortable with the thought of lavishing yourself in decadence, you can use this day to finish a project that you started but never got to finish. This means finally sorting through your closet or tackling that pantry that has gotten out of control. Use this day to start off those habits you’ve been meaning to but kept putting off.

3. Fall in Love with Something New. Have you been toying with the idea of joining a workout class at the community center, or maybe even toying with the idea of learning how to cook something new and fresh? Challenge yourself to do something that you’ve been wanting to do but never got the opportunity to do it.

4. Send Someone Else Some Love. Valentine’s Day isn’t only for couples—it should be about showing other people in your life how much you love and appreciate them, too. Use this day to surprise someone in your life with a bit of extra love and appreciation. Do you have a neighbor who is lonely? Offer to take them out to coffee and spend some time with them. If you’ve some friends that could use some company, plan a girls day out. You could even volunteer at your local church or soup kitchen and give back to the community.

5. Participate and Plan a “Secret Valentine” with Your Friends. It’s kind of like a Secret Santa, but for Valentine’s day! Simply draw a name out of a hat and set a budget. It’s that simple. Then by the end of the night, don your best clothes and go out for a nice dinner with your group of friends and then exchange your gifts. Always remember that the people you keep close should be shown a bit of love, too, on this day.

Valentine’s Day may be thought of as a day for couples to do couples things, but who needs a significant other when you have friends and family that you love just as much?
