The Ins and Outs of How to End a Date

Ending a date can be difficult, regardless if you’re having a great time or it’s going horribly. It can be a lot simpler either way when you follow these tips, depending on what sort of date you have.

The Good Date

With a hug. If you both feel some kind of connection by the end of the night, but you don’t want to go too far, you can always end the evening with a hug. It’s safe, it’s comforting, and it is a good way to make someone want more.

With a kiss. When you have a date that is so wonderful, it’s understandable that you might want to end it on a high note. That high note can be with a great kiss. Before you move in with the intent on shoving your tongue down their throat, take it slow and see if the French kissing is mutually wanted.

With sex. If a kiss is a high note than in bed must be the cherry on top. When you feel that strong connection, and you just can’t wait to jump their bones, then, by all means, go for it. Just make sure that you use protection and the feelings are mutual.

The Bad Date

Tell them you’ll call them. This option is probably the worst way you can end a date, especially when you know you aren’t going to call them. Yes, this is an easy way out, but it’s cruel — especially if that other person really likes you.

Tell them you had a nice time. When you say this, you’re being polite. When you end the evening with this line, you’re leaving this pretty open-ended, and it could drive your date bonkers when you don’t reach out to them for a second date.

Be honest. This probably isn’t the most favored way to end a bad date, especially if you don’t like hurting people. However, honesty will get you more respect from the other person than lying. If you don’t feel the chemistry between you two, just tell them that you aren’t interested in going out again. At least the other person knows where they stand.

The Train-Wreck Date

Following a timeline. Sometimes it doesn’t take long at all to know whether or not the date is going to go well. Upon meeting your date, you might decide that you’ve “got an emergency” to take care of so you have to cut the date short. It’s not overtly rude, but the other person will less likely be offended this way.

Have a friend make a rescue phone call. Maybe you decided to give the date the college try and stick it out. However halfway through dinner, you go to the restroom and beg your friend to call you with some kind of emergency — anything to pull you away from the dull date.

Be honest. Again, honesty is usually the best way to go. Admittedly, it won’t be easy, but breaking the hard truth to someone is a lot easier than suffering through a date where you’re bored to tears, right?
