10 Game of Throne Characters With More Game Than You

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is one of those shows that has everyone talking Monday morning – whether it’s because of that brutal act of betrayal (Red Wedding anyone?), that brilliant moment when a detestable ruler got what was coming to him, or when we saw what dragon can really do.

The show has something for everyone! If you like political intrigue, you’ll love the war for the Iron Throne. If you like strong female characters, you’ll admire characters like Cersei Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Yara Greyjoy, and the wildling, Ygritte. If you like mysticism, you’ll appreciate that aspect of the show. Of course, we can’t forget the battles, the murders, and the epic deaths!

However, there’s one aspect of the show not many people seem to talk about – how much swag George R. R. Martin has given some of the characters! Hell, some of these Game of Thrones characters has more game than most of us could even dream of!

In this list, we’re going to break down our top Lotharios of Westeros – past and present. Be warned, there may be spoilers ahead! Also, some of the quotes are from the book and not the show.

10 Game of Thrones Characters With More Game Than You

10. Tormund Giantsbane: *Sexy Come-Hither Stare*

Tormund Giantsbane from Game of Thrones

Tormund is quite the handsome fella – strong, has a respectable swagger, and that fiery red beard. Yum! What’s different about Tormund is that he doesn’t have to dress himself up and put on airs. As a wildling, he’s more about the presentation – even if it’s ripping into a piece of meat. That hungry (but so sexy) stare will have you creaming your britches, unlike Brianne of Tarth here.

Wildlings aren’t ones to mince words, and Tormund is no different. He even tells you: “We’re not clever like you Southerners. When we say we’ll do something, we’ll do it.” However, when it comes to flirting, he doesn’t need a pickup line because he has those smoldering eyes.

Real World Application: Tap into your inner Tormund and give that hottie a seductive stare. Although, we recommend that you refrain from stuffing your face with a huge hunk of meat while you’re doing it. That could be a big turn off.

9. Daario Naharis: My sword is yours. My life is yours. My love is yours. My blood, my body, my songs, you own them all. I live and die at your command, fair queen.

Daario Naharis from GoT

When you want to seduce the Mother of Dragons, you have to have game, no doubt about that. Daario Naharis did exactly that. Fans of GoT were upset by how different Daario looked in the show than in the books (especially when the actor was replaced for season 4), however, we can’t deny that Daario from season 3 made our hearts swoon and our tongues wag. While he may not have had the blue beard, he was quite the charmer and made a big impression on Daenerys.

Season 4’s Daario showed us that you could lead powerful sell-sword company and still be an attentive (and respectful!) lover to a powerful woman. In the end though, it didn’t matter how charming or good in bed (Really? 1,000 lovers?), he simply wasn’t man enough to wed the Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Protector of the Realm, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Mother of Dragons, The Unburnt, Breaker of Chains, Princess of Dragonstone. Not surprising, eh?

Real World Application: Compliments will always get you far. Now we aren’t suggesting that you go into a long and elaborate compliment and profess your love to your crush like Daario, but say something sweet, to the point, and thoughtful!

“We had philosophical differences […] Of your beauty. It meant more to me than it did to them.”

8. Euron Greyjoy: So here I am, with a thousand ships, and two good hands.

Euron Greyjoy from GoT

Love him or hate him, Euron Greyjoy is definitely a character with some major game. This vengeful pirate has a way with words that will make even cold as ice Queen Cersei give pause. And why wouldn’t it? Euron has many ships, a score to settle with another member on this list and his speech when he meets Cersei for the first time appeals to her in a very seductive, but political manner.

But how does he intend to win her over? By bringing her a gift. What is that gift? Well, you’ll have to watch and see, but needless to say it is something she very much wants! Who would have thought that throwing shade at the Queen’s current lover (sorry Jaime), political intrigue, gifts, and a fleet of ships full of bloodthirsty warriors would make a woman’s heart go pitter pat?

Real World Application: When you are trying to get on a woman’s good side and woo her, bring her something sweet. Maybe find out what her favorite flower is and surprise her with that – or even surprise her with a cup of coffee just the way she likes it.

“In my experience, the surest way to a woman’s heart is with a gift. A priceless gift. I won’t return to King’s Landing until I have that for you.”

8. Ygritte: Girls see more blood than boys… Or do you like girls that swoon, Jon Snow?

Ygritte from GoT

Another wildling on our list! While Ygritte’s stint on the show was much too short for this writer’s liking, her romance with Jon Snow changed him forever. You know she has some serious game when she’s able to make a brother of the Night’s Watch (Snow) break those vows of celibacy and get down and dirty. While the romance had a rocky start, being the two came from two different sides. But over time, they fell for each other – hard.

If we learned anything from their romance, it’s that you can fall for someone who has a different background/lifestyle than you. Just bust a few chops, be yourself, and the rest will fall into place. Just don’t get shot in the back by an arrow.

Real World Application: Be yourself. If Ygritte has shown us anything is that you don’t have to put on airs in order to sweep someone off their feet. If they don’t fall for you for the person that you are, then they don’t deserve you.

“If we die we die, but first we will live.”

7. Grey Worm: It is hard for me to say goodbye to you.

Grey Worm from GoT

Grey Worm… The leader of the Unsullied and probably the person who is most devoted to Daenerys and her cause – she did free him and the rest of the Unsullied after all. Grey Worm has proven time and time again how loyal he is as a subject, but he also has become something of a friend, in my opinion, and a crucial member of Danny’s entourage. Without Grey Worm and the rest of the Unsullied, Danny wouldn’t be where she is today.

What really stands out about Grey Worm and makes him such a great catch is how respectful he is. When he is with Missandei, he appreciates her and the way he looks at her? It’s something that you don’t see very often, not in GoT, and very rarely in real life. Even though he may be without “root and stem,” that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have feelings or crave human affection. When you date someone like him, you know you’ll be treasured.

Real World Application: Never be afraid of what you feel. If you love someone, tell them. If you care for them, tell them. You never know if that is your last chance to let your feelings known. While you may not always get the response you’re hoping for, at least you (and they) will know the truth.

“You are my weakness…”

6. Missandei: Many things…

Missandei from GoT

We can’t talk about Grey Worm without talking about Missandei. Both are incredibly loyal to Daenerys, but what’s more to the point, they are truly falling for each other. You can see how sweet she is, and she’s one of the only few people left on the show that you can feel good about supporting. She’s kind, she’s learned (19 languages y’all! How many people do you know can speak that many languages?), and she’s got that girl next door vibe down pat.

There’s a tenderness and vulnerability about Missandei that makes you want to hold her in your arms and reassure her that everything will be alright. Also, if you’re the shy type like our dear Grey Worm, you can trust that Missandei wouldn’t kiss and tell. Just don’t take that as an okay to make her a side piece, because that would just be wrong on so many levels.

Real World Application: If you’re like Missandei (learned, reserved, and quiet), use that to your advantage. People love that girl next door, but be sure not to let anyone walk all over you! When you’re with someone that you like and you want to know where you stand, be bold and demand answers. It’ll show them that because you don’t let your guard down very easily, they must be someone special for you to be able ask them for a clear answer of where you two stand with one another.

“I’m glad you saw me…”

5. Khal Drogo: You are the moon of my life, that is all I know and all I need to know.

Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones

Now I know we’re going to get some flak for having Khal Drogo on this list because Danny in the book was only 13 years old and on the show their wedding night was… Shall we say less than romantic. BUT, you have to admit the love that the two developed over the two seasons was quite enviable. It left a certain taste in the mouth that left audiences wanting more – too bad he was killed off way, way too soon.

There are very few marriages on GoT, let alone happy marriages. The love between Drogo and Daenerys was strong. It ran deep, and that love still affects her today. You’ve got to be pretty special to leave a mark like that on someone.

Real World Application: There’s nothing wrong with letting someone into your life who could change you. Be open to that possibility and embrace it. Sometimes we get comfortable in our ways and refuse to see how things can be different. Be open to change and you may see a different side to yourself.

“And if this is a dream, I will kill the man who tries to wake me…”

4. Yara Greyjoy: Boy. Girl. It Depends on the port.

Yara Greyjoy from Game of Thrones

When we first met Yara, she came to rescue her brother, Theon. Little did he know that it was she when he started feeling up on her chest and making lewd comments. However, the more we got to see this, the clearer it came to be that Yara was more like her brother than we may have thought. As an Iron-Born, she’s crass, she’s ballsy (definitely has more cajones than Theon), and she doesn’t shy away from a fight. Yara is a woman who enjoys getting frisky at brothels, but also with the paramour of a foreign (but deceased) prince. Needless to say, Yara has definite game!

When Yara meets Daenerys, the chemistry between the two are certainly palpable. Being who she is, she is able to appeal to Danny on a level that men cannot. They have similar goals and backgrounds, so it makes perfect sense that they become allies. Of course, we wouldn’t have minded if they shared a kiss or two.

“I never demand, but I’m up for anything, really.”

3. Tyrion Lannister: I loved a maid fair as summer, with sunlight in her hair.

Tyrion Lannister from game of thrones

When we first met Tyrion, he was a drunk and a he frequented brothels like no body’s business. That’s where he met his love, Shae, after all. However, throughout the course of the show, we see Tyrion evolve and change, thanks to her. It’s hard not to be captivated by the little imp – he’s charming, learned, and he has a conscience, unlike many characters on the show. When he’s forced to marry young Sansa, he doesn’t force her to consummate the marriage, nor does he ever.

Tyrion shows us that you can be married, but still respect the woman who has his heart, Shae. When Shae sees that there is no blood on the sheets, he gives her a look that tells her (and us) that she is the only one for him. It isn’t often where you find a man who will forego sleeping with a young bride (he won’t mostly because she’s supposed to be 14). We like to think it was more out of respecting the secret relationship between he and Shae. Too bad she betrays him in the worst way possible…

Real World Application: To be more like Tyrion, you have to have a conscience. Not only have a conscience, but you have to be respectful of the people in your life. When you’re with someone, be with only that one person. Just… Don’t keep it a secret (a poorly kept one at that) and don’t put yourself in a situation where you have to kill your betraying lover in self-defense.

“I won’t share your bed. Not until you want me to.”

2. Daenerys Targaryen: My sun and stars…

Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones

It should be no surprise that the Mother of Dragons has made it onto our list. Daenerys is the quintessential picture of beauty. She’s proven to be a fair and just leader (although she’s getting a little… Mad King-ish). She wants what is best for those who are mistreated and enslaved. Plus, she’s determined to take back what she believes is hers. To say the very least, Danny is one determined chick.

The reason why Danny is on our list is because she knows what she wants. When she was with Drogo, she was a meek little girl, but later in Meereen, she had grown up and she wasn’t the wilting flower. No, she has grown up quite a lot and we applaud her for that change. With Daario, she is bold. She takes charge. She is a queen – and what man doesn’t want to be told what to do by a powerful woman?

Real World Application: If you see someone that you want to be with, don’t be afraid to go after it. Pursue that person and let them know exactly what you want. Of course, be respectful and if they don’t return your affections, then let it be. However, if they reciprocate, then let the fun begin!

“Take off your clothes.”

1. Oberyn Martell: …everyone is missing half the world’s pleasure.[…] When it comes to love – I don’t choose sides.

Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones

Oberyn Martell is… well, was, a fine specimen if ever we saw one. Oberyn had charisma that oozed from every pore, and it was no wonder why he a fan favorite, and why people were so upset when they heard that “POP!” (if you saw that episode, you know exactly what we’re talking about). The Red Viper was not afraid to show his love for life, sex, and passion. While he may have been with Ellaria Sand, the pair shared loves like one would share a carriage.

What makes Oberyn stand out is that he is the quintessential lover. He doesn’t discriminate when it comes to love and he surrounds himself with likeminded people. If you ask us, Oberyn is the man that many men in the real world wish they could be.

Real World Application: If you want to channel your inner Oberyn, you’ve got to be cool, confident, and likeable. Charisma has to ooze from every inch of your being, and unfortunately, some people simply do not have that. You can, however, practice being more confident and with that confidence, charisma will come too.

“The gods made that, and it delights me. The gods made this… and it delights me.”
